The Characters

Telly

When Telly decided to leave his negligent father’s home shortly after his eighteenth birthday, he didn’t think things could get much worse than they already were. He was wrong. After a few months of hard living on the streets of Los Angeles, he’s thinking maybe he didn’t have it so bad after all. The only bright spot in his life is his friend Mattie, another runaway who has shown Telly how to survive as a homeless kid in Los Angeles.

Telly is quiet, cautious, and oftentimes cynical. He feels like the world has taken much from him already, and he will do whatever it takes to protect the few things he has left.

Van

Van is charming, rich, clever, and far older than he looks. He holds a power that few men can even dream of, but his greatest goal is to be done with it, and take his place amongst the stars. He meets Telly one evening during a chance encounter and takes him under his wing. Although Van is a cruel tutor, beyond his callous methods lie many ulterior motives.

Mattie

Telly's best friend and guide through the rough streets of Los Angeles. He's a streetwise kid with a past just as troubled as Telly's, but he carries an optimistic demeanor that serves as Telly's guiding light.

Xian

A female, 400-year-old Chinese philosopher. She provides advice to Van (when he allows it), but she has grave concerns about his mental state, and what he plans to do with Telly.

Esmeralda

She is Spanish nobility -- beautiful, exotic, and Van simply describes her as a "cougar". Her interest in young Telly is immediately apparent, but her motives are not.

Mark Marshall

He is the youngest of the immortals, and a descendant of great historical figures. His family has run a military supply company for generations, but Mark takes great offense at the term "arms dealer". Mark seems irreverent and carefree initially, but beyond that casual exterior lies a cold and calculating mind.
